COO's Aboriginal Health Human Resources Initiative

AHHRI stands for Aboriginal Health Human Resources Initiative (AHHRI)

AHHRI is a 5-year initiative (2005-2010) that will develop and implement health human resources strategies that respond to the unique needs and diversity among First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. It will seek to provide the right balance and numbers of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis health care providers, increase the level of cultural competency of health care providers and, as well, respond to the current, new and emerging health services issues and priorities while integrating with the pan-Canadian Health Human Resource Strategy. Given the complexity of health human resources planning and the numbers of stakeholders involved in health human resources, the AHHRI had identified both a vision and long-term goals that could be achieved over time as the activities initiated through the AHHRI become targeted into ongoing work of the various stakeholders and programs.

AHHRI aims to lay the foundation for longer-term systemic changes in the supply, demand, and creation of supportive environments for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis health human resources.
